You'll find nowhere quite like Applejacks. Your own private, quirky hideaway in the rolling countryside.

Applejacks Cabin

Applejacks is a charming cosy gem which is accessed through private gates off a quiet country lane and down a drive to the former stone sheep barn which is full of wood and rustic features. We proudly completed our quirky cabin in 2021.

The space is lovingly designed with exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, arched doors and a wood burner. The master bedroom has an en-suite and behind a bookshelf is a hidden bunk room.

Guests can enjoy 3 acres of private grounds with a stream bubbling through it and a lake with jetty and rowing boat.

The cabin is laid out as follows:

Inside

Porch/boot room with handmade sheep mosaic on the floor and store cupboard with washing machine.

The main living area has high ceilings, exposed oak features and a wood burner/baking stove, with two comfy chairs and colourful bean bags at one end. There is a writing table that is perfect for anyone needing to work on a laptop. At the other end is a rustic dining table, dresser and brand-new kitchen (microwave, dishwasher). There is a Dulcimer should guests wish to learn a medieval string instrument!

The master bedroom is entered through an arched door. There is an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower. You can hear the trickle of the stream as you fall asleep.

Behind the bookshelf leading off the lounge is a small secret bunk bedroom hidden behind a bookshelf! The room has colourful wallpaper and bed linen, perfect for kids or extra guests.

There is a cloakroom/toilet off the lounge.

Outside

French doors lead out onto a large, partially covered, hardwood deck, with comfortable sofas and a chimenea on one side, and an oak dining table on the other. Next to the deck is a wood-fired hot tub.

Wander down to the stream and surrounding nature and enjoy complete privacy. The barn is surrounded by formal lawns and there are also three acres of private grounds for guests to exclusively explore and enjoy. Why not sit around a fire and cook marshmallows?

Next to the stream is a two-person oak swing seat and pond, it is a perfect spot for enjoying the sights and sounds of the stream or to watch the kids play in the water.

Across a stone bridge is a small orchard and grasslands. At the other end of the field, guests can discover a lake with a path running around it. There is a jetty and rowing boat for guests to use at their own risk.

Guests can enjoy outdoor fires or BBQ, and there is a clay oven for pizzas, meat and jacket potatoes.

There is another picnic table in the field.

Surrounding Area

Bampton is a lovely “foodie” village just five minutes’ walk away. Bampton has a rustic, old-world feel, full of traditional stone housing and narrow, winding streets. It has good, family-friendly pubs, and a surprisingly good range of shops for organic produce, crafts, gifts, wines, and local ciders.

The surrounding countryside is typical of Mid-Devon – rolling, green, full of quaint villages, and perfect for hiking, biking, driving and otherwise exploring.

There are many outstanding walking spots nearby, including Exmoor National Park, just 10-mins drive away. One of our favourite spots is Tarr Steps (in Exmoor) where you can paddle in the stream to refresh after your walk.

Further afield, you have the glorious West Country to explore. Devon and its neighbouring counties boast several national parks, world-class beaches & surfing, loads of heritage sights and much more. It’s the UK’s playground. Oh, and we get the best weather in the UK too!

Important Things to Note

The lake and stream are not fenced off so children must be accompanied at all times. There is a rowing boat for guests to use but it is done so completely at the guests’ risk and should not be used by anyone under 18.

“Heaven on earth. Everything about this place is perfect. The beautiful surroundings, comfy and aesthetic cabin, amazing amenities. All just perfect.”
